About New Captain Pete

A 53-foot charter boat running out of Pillar Point Harbor, Half Moon Bay.

The New Captain Pete is 53 feet, cruises at 15 knots, and takes up to 38 anglers. A 2021 overhaul added two John Deere engines. The wheelhouse carries a Furuno fish finder, a Furuno 36-mile radar, and Echotec GPS, and the deck has a heated cabin and restrooms on board.

In late 2023, Melynda Dodds took over the boat as Lighthouse Charters LLC when the previous owner, Dennis, retired after more than 35 years. Captain Mike Cabanas, former captain of the Huli Cat, has more than nine years running charter boats out of Half Moon Bay. Deckhands Megan and Maddie help with tackle, clear snags, and fillet and bag the fish. Rods and tackle are included on rockfish and crab trips. The boat also runs whale watching, seabird trips, private parties, harbor cruises, and scatterings at sea.
